Gryphon hockey men to turn up the speed"We still have a ways to go and, fortunately, we have some time to do that," Gryphon coach Shawn Camp said after Wednesday’s practice at the Gryphon Centre. "We have a lot of new faces in our lineup this year. We’re young and fast, but it’s certainly a different style of team than we’ve had in the past when we had so much experience."The Gryphs became a little younger than expected during the off season when eight members of last year’s squad joined pro teams for this winter. Macdonald, Nathan Martine, Justin Gvora and Matt Lyall were finished with their schooling. Gale and Gvora used up their five years of eligibility while the other three left after their fourth seasons. Also gone, though, are three players who were rookies last season scoring leader Andy Bathgate, defenceman Mike Schwindt and goaltender Brandon Maxwell. The departed players accounted for 53 goals, 78 assists and a 10 3 0 record in net last season."We’ll rely on a lot of energy this year and a lot of youthful exuberance to carry the day for us," Camp said.Martine and Gvora are to play in the East Coast league this winter while Gale, Macdonald and Schwindt are in Germany. Lyall is in France and Bathgate is in Belgium. Maxwell, who left the team in January to play in Russia last season, has joined Modo Hockey in Sweden for this season.Despite losing the players, Camp is delighted that they get the chance to pursue pro careers."It’s great because Guelph has become a real destination for players who want to get their degree and then move on to play pro hockey," he said. "We’ve seen all of our graduates move on to pro hockey over the last few years so the opportunity is there for them to get a great degree, get a chance to play and develop their game and continue their development so that they are ready for pro when they leave here."There are no plans to sit this year’s crop of replica oakleys rookies down and get a commitment of at least two seasons from them."While we prefer them to fake oakleys stay, everyone’s at a different stage in their life," Camp said. "If the opportunity comes along that they feel they have to take, we support them on that."The rookie crop this season will include forwards Kyle Neuber, Rob DeFulviis, Carlos Amestoy and Teal Burns and goaltender Keith Hamilton."Recruiting is an important part of what we do and, fortunately, we’ve brought in some good young guns here who should help us out this year," Camp said. buy fake oakleysNeuber, who was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the seventh round of the 2009 NHL draft, played in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies in the 2011 12 season when he had one goal and 109 penalty minutes in 34 games. He had played three seasons in the OHL before getting drafted by the Blue Jackets.DeFulviis split time between Rouyn Noranda, Que. and Rimouski, Que. during two seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League before playing with Woodstock in the Maritime tier two league last winter. He had 32 goals, 38 assists and 177 penalty minutes in 49 games with Woodstock.Amestoy, who saw parts of two seasons with Saginaw in the OHL, also played in Woodstock last winter and had 17 goals and 20 assists in 26 games.Hamilton posted a 38 43 7 record in parts of three seasons in the WHL. He was 13 6 1 with a .917 save percentage in 22 games with Okotoks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League last season.Following Friday’s game, the Gryphs will have three weeks of practices before cheap oakleys completing their pre season with games at South Bend, Ind., against Notre Dame on Oct. 6 and Erie against Mercyhurst on Oct. 8.
